Over Here...Over There
Our Tim left on Wednesday. He's now "over there" for five weeks, visiting various teams to help him decide where he is going to spend the next two years serving God on the mission field.
He's there safely -- I got an e-mail yesterday saying he had arrived; negotiated the three flights and three airports and evidently got his visa when he arrived at his destination. I wasn't home when he left -- had speaking engagements in Indiana, so had to say goodbye to him last Sunday -- but kept fussing over wondering if he had remembered everything...
Toothpaste?
Deodorant?
Enough boxers?
His new journal?
His asthma meds?
His camera?
Shampoo?
Did he put his money into at least three different spots and NOT in his duffel?
Did he copy the front and back of his credit card and driver's license and leave it with us?
Bob said he took two Bibles -- one in his backpack and one in his duffel in case one was confiscated. I wonder where he put his copy of the Koran. He wondered what he should say if someone asked him what religion he was. I suggested that he simply tell them he didn't have a religion -- he had a relationship.
Will he remember to offer to help the host/hostess where he is staying. Like making his bed? Offering to clear the table and do dishes?
Will he bring optimism and enthusiasm to the teams? Will he be able to minister to them while he is learning what he is to do? Will he give them more than the Hershey bars and jars of crunchy peanut butter he took as gifts?
So many questions...
I can't mother him from this distance.
But I can pray.....and remember that the Lord can protect him just as easily over there as over here.
He is, after all, the God of the universe.
